Target Information
Steroid receptors are ligand-dependent intracellular proteins that stimulate transcription of specific genes by binding to DNA sequences after activation by the appropriate hormone.
Mineralocorticoids, secreted by the adrenal cortex, regulate metabolic and electrolyte processes through interaction with the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR).
The kidney is a primary target organ for mineralocorticoids, containing MR. The corresponding gene for MR is NR3C2.
