Target Information
CKIP1 was identified through a yeast-two hybrid screening as a protein that interacts specifically with one of the catalytic subunits of the casein kinase 2 complex. It contains a pleckstrin homology domain and is localized within the nucleus and plasma membrane. CKIP1 interacts with CK2α but not CK2α′ and plays a role in targeting CK2α to particular cellular locations.
It is implicated in muscle differentiation, regulation of cell morphology, and actin cytoskeleton organization. CKIP1 can also interact with ATM, recruiting it to the plasma membrane, suggesting a role in regulating ATM function. Additionally, CKIP1 forms a complex with AKT, downregulating PI3K/AKT signaling and suppressing tumor growth in vivo.
