Target Information

Adenylate kinases (AK) are a family of structurally and functionally related enzymes that catalyze the reaction:
MgNTP + AMP → MgNDP + ADP (N = A or G)

These enzymes maintain homeostasis of adenine and guanine nucleotide pools.

• AK1: Cytosolic enzyme using ATP as substrate
• AK2: Localized in mitochondrial intermembrane space, catalyzing the same reaction as AK1
• AK3: Found in mitochondrial matrix, prefers GTP over ATP as substrate
