Target Information

Lin28 is a transcription factor first identified for its role in developmental timing in C. elegans. It plays a key role in stem cell biology and the generation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. Expression of Lin28, together with transcription factors POU5F1, Sox2, and NANOG, enables the reprogramming of somatic cells into iPS cells. Further studies have shown that iPS cells can be generated using expression plasmids encoding Lin28, Sox2, POU5F1, and c-Myc, avoiding viral vectors and improving safety for regenerative medicine applications.
