Parathyroid hormone-related protein은 동일한 수용체에 결합하여 발달 과정에 중요한 영향을 미칩니다. 대부분의 단백질 호르몬과 마찬가지로, PTH는 preprohormone 형태로 합성되며 세포 내 가공을 거쳐 성숙 호르몬으로 전환됩니다. 성숙된 호르몬은 골지체에서 분비 소포로 포장되어 혈액으로 방출됩니다.
