Target Information
Periaxin is a protein encoded by the PRX gene in humans. It plays a crucial role in maintaining peripheral nerve myelin. The protein contains two PDZ domains, named after PSD95, DlgA, and ZO1. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encode different isoforms that are targeted differently within Schwann cells.
Mutations in the PRX gene are associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy type 4F and Dejerine-Sottas neuropathy.
