Target Information
The Ras-related superfamily of guanine nucleotide-binding proteins includes the R-Ras, Rap, Ral/Rec, and Rho/Rab subfamilies. Rab proteins play essential roles in endocytosis and biosynthetic protein transport, mediating vesicular trafficking between the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi complex, and secretory vesicles.
Rab23 (HSPC137) is a 237-amino-acid member of the Rab family localized to the cytoplasmic side of the cell membrane. It is involved in intracellular protein transport and small GTPase-mediated signaling. Mutations in the RAB23 gene are associated with Carpenter syndrome (ACPS2), characterized by obesity, cardiac defects, polysyndactyly, and craniosynostosis.
