Target Information
Protein kinases are enzymes that transfer phosphate groups from donors such as ATP to acceptor amino acids in substrate proteins. Through this process, they regulate signal transduction in eukaryotic cells, affecting metabolism, transcription, cell cycle progression, cytoskeletal dynamics, cell movement, apoptosis, and differentiation.
The protein kinase family includes over 500 gene products and is classified into eight major groups based on catalytic domain sequences. Tyrosine kinase (TK) members regulate cell-cell interactions such as differentiation, adhesion, motility, and death. Approximately 90 TK genes have been sequenced, including receptor TKs (EGFR, EPH, FGFR, PDGFR, TRK, VEGFR families) and cytosolic TKs (ABL, FAK, JAK, SRC families).
