Target Information
TAS2R14 belongs to the family of candidate taste receptors within the G-protein-coupled receptor superfamily. These proteins are specifically expressed in taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate epithelia. They are organized in genomic clusters linked to loci influencing bitter perception in mice and humans. In functional expression studies, TAS2R14 responds to bitter tastants and maps to the taste receptor gene cluster on chromosome 12p13.
It is a gustducin-coupled receptor implicated in the perception of bitter compounds in the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract, signaling through PLCB2 and TRPM5, and expressed exclusively in gustducin-positive cells.
