Target Information
Apolipoprotein E (Apo E) plays a critical role in plasma lipid metabolism and is a major component of various plasma lipoprotein-lipid particles. It is synthesized in the liver, brain, spleen, and kidney, with high concentrations in interstitial fluids. Apo E facilitates cholesterol transport between cells and is essential for the formation of very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL) and chylomicrons. The Apo E gene is located on chromosome 19 at position 19q13.2.
