Guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) act as modulators or transducers in various transmembrane signaling systems. G(olf) alpha mediates signal transduction within the olfactory neuroepithelium and basal ganglia. It may also participate in visual transduction and hormone/neurotransmitter signaling.
