Target Information

The NBPF4 gene belongs to the neuroblastoma breakpoint family (NBPF), which includes multiple recently duplicated genes mainly located on human chromosome 1. This gene family expanded significantly in humans and to a lesser extent in other primates. NBPF members contain tandemly repeated DUF1220 protein domains. Variations in gene copy number within the 1q21.1 region, where most DUF1220 domains are found, have been linked to developmental and neurogenetic disorders such as microcephaly, macrocephaly, autism, schizophrenia, congenital heart disease, and neuroblastoma. Altered expression of certain NBPF genes is associated with various cancers. This gene family also includes numerous pseudogenes.
