This antibody detects endogenous levels of total BRF1.

Target Information

RNA polymerase (Pol) III synthesizes tRNA, 5S rRNA, 7SL RNA, and U6 snRNA, and is overexpressed in many transformed cell lines and tumors. To maintain rapid growth, cells produce high levels of Pol III–transcribed RNA, requiring TFIIIB and TFIIIC2 transcription factor complexes.
TFIIIC2, composed of TFIIIC220, TFIIIC110, TFIIIC102, TFIIIC90, and TFIIIC63, is overexpressed in adenovirus-transformed and malignant cells such as ovarian carcinomas. It recruits RNA Pol III and TFIIIB to promoter elements and may play a key role in malignant cell deregulation.
The TFIIIB complex includes TATA-binding protein (TBP), TFIIB-related factor 1 (TFIIIB90, BRF1), and TFIIIB, all of which are upregulated in transformed cells. In many carcinomas, tumor suppressors RB and p53 are inactivated, impairing their ability to bind and inhibit TFIIIB function.
