Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the complex I 75 kDa subunit family. Mammalian complex I consists of 45 subunits and is located in the mitochondrial inner membrane. It exhibits NADH dehydrogenase and oxidoreductase activities, transferring electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor is believed to be ubiquinone. This protein, the largest subunit of complex I, is part of the iron-sulfur fragment and may form part of the active site where NADH is oxidized. Mutations in this gene are associated with complex I deficiency. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
