The ANLN gene encodes an actin-binding protein involved in cell growth, migration, and cytokinesis. It regulates actin cytoskeletal dynamics in podocytes of the glomerulus. Mutations in this gene are linked to focal segmental glomerulosclerosis 8. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
