A-kinase anchor proteins (AKAPs) are a diverse group of proteins that bind to the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A (PKA), confining the holoenzyme to specific cellular locations.
AKAP4 (also known as hAKAP82) is a major sperm fibrous sheath protein localized along the entire flagellum of human sperm. It is implicated in sperm motility and signal transduction regulation.
AKAP4 has also been suggested as a potential biomarker for breast cancer.
