Target Information

Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses: one utilizes NAD(+) and the other NADP(+) as electron acceptors.
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported:

• Three NAD(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenases (mitochondrial matrix)
• Two NADP(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenases (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic)

NAD(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the rate-limiting step of the TCA cycle and are heterotetramers composed of two alpha, one beta, and one gamma subunit.
The encoded protein represents the beta subunit of one NAD(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase isozyme.
Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
