Target Information
Dicer is a double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) endoribonuclease playing a central role in short dsRNA-mediated post-transcriptional gene silencing. It cleaves long dsRNAs and short hairpin pre-miRNAs into 21–23 nucleotide fragments with 3′ overhangs, producing siRNAs and mature miRNAs. These guide the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to complementary RNAs for degradation or translation inhibition.
RNA interference (siRNA pathway) regulates elimination of transcripts from mobile and repetitive DNA elements and degradation of exogenous viral RNA. The miRNA pathway regulates specific gene expression.
