EMSY is a regulator capable of repressing transcription, possibly through interaction with a chromatin remodeling complex that modifies chromatin structure. Its interaction with BRCA2 suggests a role in DNA repair functions of BRCA2. As part of a histone H3-specific methyltransferase complex, EMSY may mediate ligand-dependent transcriptional activation by nuclear hormone receptors.
