Target Information
The urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR) is a key molecule regulating cell-surface plasminogen activation, playing an important role in both normal and pathological processes.
Human PLAUR cDNA encodes 335 amino acids, including a 22-residue signal peptide and a hydrophobic C-terminal portion, producing a highly glycosylated ~50 kDa protein in monocytes. This protein is anchored to the plasma membrane via a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol linkage.
PLAUR (also known as uPAR) associates directly with the carbohydrate-binding domain of SELL in neutrophil membranes, similar to the association between PLAUR and β2 integrins. PLAUR-mediated calcium mobilization is SELL-dependent.
uPAR mRNA levels correlate with the invasive potential of endometrial carcinomas, showing up to a 33-fold increase in advanced-stage tumors compared with normal endometrial tissue. Elevated uPAR expression correlates with recurrence and mortality rates in endometrial cancer patients, making uPAR a useful prognostic marker for advanced endometrial cancer.
