Target Information

NME4 is a protein kinase that transfers a phosphate group from a phosphate donor, typically the γ-phosphate of ATP, onto an acceptor amino acid in a substrate protein. Through this mechanism, protein kinases mediate most signal transduction in eukaryotic cells, regulating cellular metabolism, transcription, cell cycle progression, cytoskeletal rearrangement, cell movement, apoptosis, and differentiation.
The protein kinase family, comprising over 500 gene products, is one of the largest families in eukaryotes. It is classified into 8 major groups based on sequence comparison of their tyrosine (PTK) or serine/threonine (STK) kinase catalytic domains.
The AGC kinase group includes 63 kinases such as the cyclic nucleotide-regulated protein kinase (PKA/PKG) family, the diacylglycerol-activated/phospholipid-dependent protein kinase C (PKC) family, the RAC/Akt protein kinase family, the G protein-coupled receptor kinases (ARK), and the ribosomal protein S6 kinases (RSK).
