FGFR2는 수용체 티로신 키나아제(FGFR) 계열의 구성원으로, 혈관신생, 세포분열, 골형성, 근형성, 암발생, 세포분화 및 조직 회복 등 다양한 세포 기능을 조절합니다. FGFR 계열은 암, 류머티즘 관절염, 당뇨성 망막병증 등 여러 질환과 관련되어 있습니다. FGFR2 유전자의 돌연변이는 Crouzon, Pfeiffer, Apert, Jackson-Weiss, Beare-Stevenson, Saethre-Chotzen 등 다양한 증후군과 연관되어 있으며, 여러 가지 스플라이싱 변이체가 보고되어 있습니다.
