Sarcoplasmic calcium binding protein, also known as Sarcoplasmic Reticulum Calcium-binding Protein (SARC), is found in the sarcoplasmic reticulum of muscle cells. It plays a crucial role in regulating calcium levels essential for muscle contraction and relaxation. This protein binds calcium ions for controlled storage and release. During contraction, calcium ions are released to trigger actin-myosin interaction, and after contraction, they are reabsorbed for relaxation.
