Target Information
Steroid and thyroid hormones and retinoic acid regulate gene expression via intracellular receptor transcription factors of the nuclear receptor superfamily. These transcription factors interact with coactivators and corepressors that modulate transcriptional activity.
Glucocorticoid receptor interacting protein-1 (GRIP1), also known as Transcription Intermediary Factor 2 (TIF2), is part of the transcriptional coactivator family including SRC-1 and AIB-1. GRIP1 enhances transcriptional activity of receptors such as retinoic acid, retinoid X, vitamin D, mineralocorticoid, glucocorticoid, thyroid hormone, androgen, estrogen, progesterone, and peroxisome proliferator activated receptors.
GRIP1 contains conserved LXXLL/LLXXL motifs critical for receptor–coactivator interactions.
