HDAC2는 히스톤 탈아세틸화효소(histone deacetylase) 계열에 속하며, 대형 다단백 복합체를 형성하여 핵심 히스톤(H2A, H2B, H3, H4)의 N-말단 라이신 잔기의 탈아세틸화를 담당합니다. YY1 등 다양한 단백질과 결합하여 전사 억제 복합체를 형성하며, 전사 조절, 세포 주기 진행, 발달 과정에서 중요한 역할을 합니다. 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 전사체 변이형이 생성됩니다.
