Target Information
This gene encodes a tumor suppressor protein that reduces cell growth by stimulating apoptosis. The first intron of this gene contains the neuronatin gene, which is imprinted and expressed only from the paternal allele. In the brain, this gene shows differential imprinting and promoter usage: transcription from the upstream promoter occurs preferentially on the maternal allele, while transcripts from the downstream promoter are expressed on the paternal allele. Alternative promoters and splicing result in multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein.
