Target Information
Casein kinase I (CKI) and casein kinase II (CKII) are families of serine/threonine protein kinases found in all eukaryotes. CKI family members (alpha, gamma, epsilon, delta) are involved in controlling cytoplasmic and nuclear processes such as DNA replication and repair. CKII typically forms a tetrameric complex (alpha2 beta2 or alpha alpha' beta2), with the alpha catalytic subunit stimulated by the beta regulatory subunit. CKII activity is high in proliferating and differentiating cells and phosphorylates over 100 substrates, including nuclear oncoproteins, transcription factors, and enzymes linked to DNA metabolism.
