Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the adenylate kinase family of enzymes localized to the mitochondrial matrix. Adenylate kinases regulate nucleotide compositions within a cell by catalyzing reversible phosphate transfer among adenine and guanine nucleotides. Five isozymes have been identified in vertebrates with tissue-specific and developmentally regulated expression. A pseudogene is located on chromosome 17, and three transcript variants encoding the same protein are identified on chromosome 1.
