Target Information

IKKβ (Inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit beta) is a serine kinase essential for NF-κB signaling activation. Phosphorylation of I-kappa-B proteins by IKK kinases, including IKKβ, targets them for ubiquitin-mediated degradation, enabling NF-κB activation. IKKβ functions within the canonical IKK complex, phosphorylating inhibitors of NF-κB on key serine residues, leading to their polyubiquitination and proteasomal degradation. Activated NF-κB then translocates to the nucleus to regulate genes involved in immune response, growth control, and apoptosis protection. Mutations in the IKKβ gene are associated with Immunodeficiency 15 (IMD15).
