Target Information

Cytoplasmic ribosomes, organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 structurally distinct proteins.
The RPL7A gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L7AE family of ribosomal proteins. It interacts with certain nuclear hormone receptors, including thyroid hormone receptor, inhibiting their DNA binding and transactivation activity.
This gene is part of the surfeit gene cluster and is co-transcribed with several small nucleolar RNA genes (U24, U36a, U36b, U36c). It can rearrange with the trk proto-oncogene to form the chimeric oncogene trk-2h, producing an oncoprotein that fuses the N terminus of RPL7A with the receptor tyrosine kinase domain of trk.
Multiple processed pseudogenes of RPL7A are dispersed throughout the genome.
