Target Information
RAB5 proteins are small GTPases that regulate intracellular membrane trafficking, including vesicle formation and fusion with target membranes. They cycle between inactive GDP-bound and active GTP-bound states, recruiting downstream effectors responsible for vesicle formation, movement, tethering, and fusion.
RAB5A is essential for plasma membrane and early endosome fusion, regulates filopodia extension, and is required for the exosomal release of SDCBP, CD63, PDCD6IP, and syndecan. It also plays a role in the maturation of apoptotic cell-containing phagosomes, likely acting downstream of DYN2 and PIK3C3.
