OTUB1 유전자는 OTU 초과족에 속하는 예측된 시스테인 프로테아제 계열 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 고도로 특이적인 유비퀴틴 이소펩티데이스로서, 가지형 폴리유비퀴틴 사슬에서 유비퀴틴을 절단하지만 기질에 결합된 유비퀴틴은 절단하지 않습니다. 또한 다른 유비퀴틴 프로테아제 및 E3 유비퀴틴 리가아제와 상호작용하여 면역계의 사이토카인 유전자 전사를 억제합니다. OTUB1은 유비퀴틴 의존적 경로에서 폴리유비퀴틴 사슬 성장에 대한 편집 기능을 제공할 것으로 제안됩니다. 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 전사 변이체가 생성됩니다.
