This antibody is expected to cross-react with mouse, as the human immunogen sequence shows 76% identity with mouse.
Reactivity with DNMT3L from other species has not yet been tested.
Target Information
Methylation of DNA at cytosine residues in mammalian cells is a heritable epigenetic modification essential for gene regulation, genomic imprinting, and development.
Three families of mammalian DNA methyltransferases have been identified: DNMT1, DNMT2, and DNMT3.
- DNMT1: Maintenance methyltransferase, expressed in proliferating cells.
- DNMT3A / DNMT3B: De novo methyltransferases, strongly expressed in embryonic stem cells.
- DNMT2: Expressed at low levels in adult tissues; inactivation does not affect methylation.
- DNMT3L: Catalytically inactive regulatory factor for DNMT3A and DNMT3B, expressed in embryonic stem cells, testis, ovaries, and thymus.
DNMT3L forms a heterotetrameric complex with DNMT3A or DNMT3B and contains an N-terminal ATRX-DNMT3-DNMT3L (ADD) domain and a C-terminal methyltransferase-like domain.
