Target Information
CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein constitutively expressed on the surface of mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It acts as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide receptor and is released into serum as both secreted and cleaved forms. CD14 binds lipopolysaccharides via lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), playing a role in neutralization of serum lipopolysaccharides. Soluble sCD14 can distinguish structural variations in lipopolysaccharides and is involved in inflammatory and infectious processes. CD14 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as Mycobacterium chelonae infection and croup. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
