Target Information
Adiponectin is a protein hormone secreted exclusively by adipocytes that regulates lipid and glucose metabolism. It plays a role in various physiological processes, including energy homeostasis and obesity. Decreased adiponectin levels are associated with obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. In mice, adiponectin enhances insulin signaling and reduces intramyocellular lipid levels by activating AMP kinase and PPAR-alpha, promoting fatty acid transport and oxidation.
