Target Information
This gene encodes an activating transcription factor belonging to the ATF subfamily and bZIP (basic-region leucine zipper) family. It regulates downstream target genes involved in cellular growth, survival, and other physiological processes. The protein is phosphorylated at serine 63 by several kinases, including cAMP-dependent protein kinase A, calmodulin-dependent kinase I/II, mitogen- and stress-activated kinase, and cyclin-dependent kinase 3 (cdk-3). Phosphorylation enhances its transcriptional activity and promotes cell transformation. Gene fusions with FUS (chromosome 16) or EWSR1 (chromosome 22) result in chimeric proteins associated with angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and clear cell sarcoma. A pseudogene is located on chromosome 6.
