Target Information
This gene encodes a protein belonging to the serine/threonine protein kinase STE20 subfamily. One of the active site residues in the protein kinase domain is altered, making it a pseudokinase.
The protein is part of a complex that activates serine/threonine kinase 11, which regulates cell polarity and energy metabolism. This complex controls the relocation of the kinase from the nucleus to the cytoplasm and is essential for G1 cell cycle arrest.
Additionally, the protein interacts with the X chromosome-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein, enhancing anti-apoptotic activity via the JNK1 signal transduction pathway. Two pseudogenes are located on chromosomes 1 and 7.
