Target Information
Accurate initiation of translation in eukaryotes requires multiple initiation factors. In prokaryotes, only three factors (IF1, IF2, IF3) are involved. Two of these are conserved in eukaryotes: eIF1A (homolog of IF1) and eIF5B (homolog of IF2). The eIF5B gene encodes a protein that interacts with eIF1A and other initiation factors on the ribosome, along with GTP, to correctly position the initiator methionine tRNA at the start codon of mRNA, ensuring accurate translation initiation.
