Target Information
TRPCs are mammalian homologs of the Drosophila transient receptor potential (trp) protein, functioning as ion channels that mediate capacitative calcium entry into cells. TRP-PLIK is both an ion channel and a kinase, conducting calcium and monovalent cations to depolarize cells and increase intracellular calcium. Its kinase activity is essential for channel function, dependent on intracellular ATP and demonstrated by kinase mutants.
