Target Information
LFG (Lifeguard) is a seven-transmembrane protein that inhibits apoptotic cell death induced by the Fas receptor. It is a human homolog of rat NMP35 and contains a conserved transmembrane domain and a small cytoplasmic domain. LFG protects cells from Fas-mediated neuronal cell death without affecting Fas expression or FADD binding. It does not protect against TNF-alpha mediated cell death. LFG is ubiquitously expressed, with higher expression in the hippocampus and other neural tissues, suggesting a protective role in neurodegenerative diseases.
