Background
Microtubules are constituent parts of the mitotic apparatus, cilia, flagella, and elements of the cytoskeleton. They consist mainly of two soluble proteins, α- and β-tubulin, each approximately 55 kDa in size. Antibodies against β-Tubulin are commonly used as loading controls for Western blotting. However, β-Tubulin expression levels may vary among cell types; for instance, expression in adipose tissue is very low, making it unsuitable as a loading control for such tissues.
