Background
Alpha, beta, gamma catenin (102, 94, and 86 kDa) are peripheral cytosolic proteins found in many tissues that bind to the cytoplasmic tail domain of cell adhesion cadherins. Catenins link E-cadherin to other membrane or cytoplasmic proteins and are modulated by the Wnt1 proto-oncogene. The central core region of β-catenin mediates cadherin–catenin complex interaction with EGFR. β-Catenin-mediated signaling is crucial during multiple stages of vertebrate neural development.
