Target Information

Visual signal transduction is mediated by a G-protein coupled cascade using cGMP as second messenger. CNGB3 protein can be activated by cGMP, leading to opening of the cation channel and depolarization of rod photoreceptors. It induces flickering channel gating, weakens outward rectification in the presence of extracellular calcium, increases sensitivity for L-cis diltiazem, and enhances cAMP efficiency of the channel when coexpressed with CNGA3.
This protein is essential for the generation of light-evoked electrical responses in red-, green-, and blue-sensitive cones.
