Target Information
The mitochondrial succinate dehydrogenase complex subunit D (SDHD) is one of four proteins that compose the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle enzyme succinate dehydrogenase (SCH). Mutations in SDHD have been linked to hereditary paragangliomas, typically benign tumors of the autonomic nervous system, suggesting a tumor-suppressor role. In families with nonsense mutations such as R22X, loss of heterozygosity and complete loss of Complex II enzymatic activity have been observed in tumors. Elevated levels of angiogenic factors EPAS1 and VEGF may contribute to tumor growth.
