Target Information
H3K27me3 is an epigenetic mark where histone H3 is trimethylated at lysine residue 27. It is associated with gene silencing and found predominantly in heterochromatin regions and inactive gene promoters.
This modification opposes the activating mark H3K4me3 and is linked to developmental regulation.
EZH2 (PRC2 complex) acts as the methyltransferase (“writer”), while UTX and JMJD3 serve as demethylases (“erasers”).
Dysregulation of H3K27me3 is implicated in diseases such as cancer.
H3K27me3 antibodies are commonly used in Western blot and ChIP assays to study histone modification patterns.
