Target Information
This gene belongs to a conserved family of T-box genes encoding transcription factors involved in developmental regulation. It is closely linked to T-box 3 (ulnar mammary syndrome) on human chromosome 12. The encoded protein plays a role in heart development and limb identity specification. Mutations are associated with Holt-Oram syndrome, affecting the heart and upper limbs. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described.
