Target Information
PDGFRA is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors act as mitogens for mesenchymal-origin cells. The receptor’s functional form—homodimer or heterodimer—depends on the bound growth factor. Knockout mouse studies show that PDGFRA plays a critical role in kidney development, as heterozygous mice display defective kidney phenotypes.
