ZIP11 (also known as SLC39A11) is a member of the ZIP family of multi-transmembrane domain metal ion transporters.
Zinc is an essential ion for cellular growth, development, and differentiation.
ZIP family members transport metal ions from the cell exterior or organelle lumen into the cytoplasm, whereas ZnT (SLC30) transporters reduce intracellular zinc by promoting efflux or vesicular sequestration.
At least three isoforms of ZIP11 are known to exist.
