Target Information
The receptor tyrosine kinase RET is a member of the cadherin superfamily and plays a crucial role in neural crest development. RET can undergo oncogenic activation through cytogenetic rearrangement and transduces signals for cell growth and differentiation.
Mutations in the RET gene are associated with disorders such as:
- Multiple endocrine neoplasia type IIA and IIB
- Hirschsprung disease
- Medullary thyroid carcinoma
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for the RET gene. Additional variants have been described but their biological validity has not been confirmed.
