Target Information
Calmodulin is a small, highly conserved calcium-binding protein found in all eukaryotic cells. It can bind up to four calcium ions and acts as an intracellular receptor for regulatory calcium signals. Upon calcium binding, calmodulin undergoes conformational changes that enhance its affinity for target proteins. It participates directly and indirectly in regulating key enzymes and kinases, influencing biological processes such as energy metabolism, cell motility, exocytosis, cytoskeletal assembly, and intracellular modulation of cAMP and calcium concentrations.
